Hi friend,
I want to tell you about an important campaign we’re supporting in Austin, Texas. Earlier this summer, the Texas Supreme Court cleared the way for a dangerous and misleading ballot question to appear before voters. If passed, Austin would be forced to hire up to 800 more police officers overnight, at a cost of more than half a billion dollars -- even though the city is already spending more on police per capita than any other major city in Texas.
To pay for it, Austin could be forced to cut other essential public safety jobs -- like firefighters, EMS, and 911 call takers. That’s not how you protect public safety.
If this initiative passes in Austin, it’s just the tip of the iceberg. We could start seeing this policy pop up in other cities -- and that’s why we’re fighting so hard to defeat it.
We’ve poured hundreds of thousands of dollars into this campaign, and dozens of local organizations like Black Lives Matter, AFSCME, ACLU, and more are fighting to defeat Prop A, too.
We’re down to the final stretch of fighting back against Proposition A, friend. Will you chip in whatever you can right now to protect Austin’s essential services, like firefighters, EMS, and 911 call takers?
Thanks for your help,
