Friend --

Our longtime party member Bart Everson is in the home stretch of his city council campaign. Please support him in Making New Orleans Cool Again!

Writeup in the paper.

It's the moment I've been waiting for! After all, I got in this race to inject climate issues into the public discourse, and there is no more influential publication locally thanThe Times-Picayune | Advocate. Without further ado, here it is at last, excerpted from a story that profiled all four of us in the race for New Orleans City Council At-Large.

Oct. 3, 2021

Everson, 48, got into the race to offer solutions for what he said is New Orleans' biggest problem: its fragile climate.?

"No one else is talking about this," Everson said. "And everything that we love about this world is at risk."?

Hurricanes will likely increase in frequency and intensity in the coming years, further damaging city infrastructure and raising housing costs.

To help, Everson wants to force Entergy and the Regional Transit Authority to use cleaner energy. Public buses should also run every 15 minutes to help convince people to drive their cars less frequently, he said.

The city should pay a base wage to every resident and provide reparations to the descendants of slaves, moves Everson said would reduce poverty and right old wrongs.

He also backs the full legalization of marijuana and other illegal drugs.?

Well, it could have been better, and it could have been worse. The reporter referred to me as a "Xavier administrator" elsewhere in the article and also got my age wrong. Ah, to be 48 again!

I don't really mind those factual inaccuracies, but I wish she'd focused even more on my climate policy proposals. That's my platform. That's why I'm running.

Ah well. Onward! This Saturday was supposed to be the election, but it's been postponed because of Hurricane Ida. We have five more weeks to go. The campaign season is ramping up, getting back to where it was before the storm derailed us. Lots still to do: ads to buy, policies to publish, questionnaires and forums galore. I could use your help. Please join our campaign team if you have some time to volunteer. We're meeting Friday morning -- details below.

Be safe and be well,

BartGreen Party of Louisiana
