and speaking the truth

Our power is in telling our stories boldly

Dear John,

I believe in the power of storytelling. I know that our stories connect us, strengthen our movements, and bring folks in. In our work for safety and liberation, there will always be people and corporate interests with more money, who use their resources to protect their power by spreading disinformation and fear-mongering lies. Our power is in telling our stories boldly and speaking the truth.

This week, I’ve been inspired by my coworkers’ and friends’ honesty and vulnerability. Chavah shared their story as a Saint Paul renter who, by the time they graduated from high school, had moved 14 times. DyAnna shared her experience as a college student targeted by predatory lending who’s fighting for cancellation of student debt. Read and share Chavah and DyAnna’s powerful stories, and take action and join them.

Across Minnesota, we have opportunities to invest in our communities and create life-affirming policies at the local level. Connect with your community members about the issues and candidates that matter to you. Then, check your voter registration and cast your ballot by November 2nd! Make your voice heard, and take action with us for a state where we can all thrive:

  • Share your story during our Week of Action and Solidarity to #KeepStPaulHome. Tomorrow, we’re taking to Instagram to share the top 5 reasons we love our Saint Paul neighborhoods - be sure to tag @housingequitystp in your post!

  • Join us on Thursday, October 28 to take action for student debt cancellation. We’ll share our student debt stories and support Senator Tina Smith as she pushes for executive action to cancel student debt.

  • In Minneapolis, we're sharing powerful stories about what keeps us safe. If you're a Minneapolis voter, we'd love to hear from YOU: Why are you voting YES on question 2? Reply to this email and let me know; I’d love to hear from you and share your experiences and perspectives with our neighbors.

  • Sign up for a deep canvass shift to connect with voters across Minneapolis about public safety. Phonebank and doorknock shifts are available. Anyone can join - not just Minneapolis residents!

  • Fund our movement to elect a progressive majority in Minneapolis, and get a #DontRankFrey t-shirt! $30 gets you one tee, $50 gets you two, and $80 gets you three 😊

Take action and take care,
