I’m about to ask you to read a long email about the climate crisis and our progressive movement’s urgent fight to combat it by passing both the bi-partisan infrastructure bill and the landmark reconciliation package. Then I’m going to ask you to contribute $3 or anything you can afford to help our movement make it happen.

I’ll explain more in just a minute, but if that’s all you need to hear to add your support, please use this link:

I'll be direct: The fate of climate action is in our hands.

I cannot overstate how important passing both the bi-partisan infrastructure bill and the budget reconciliation package are in our fight against climate catastrophe.

These two bills would be the most consequential climate and economic legislation in nearly a century, and would make urgently-needed and historic investments in our country’s physical and human infrastructure.

We must pass President Biden’s entire Build Back Better agenda, and the fact is that we cannot Build Back Better unless we build back GREENER. It’s time to deliver on climate action, jobs, and justice — and we have no time to waste.

Working families across this country need both of these bills to pass together. But there has been a lot of talk from pundits, the media, and naysayers about what our progressive movement should be willing to cut and negotiate in these bills.

Well here’s the truth:

We can’t negotiate with deadly wildfires. They don’t negotiate.

We can’t negotiate with massive hurricanes. They don’t negotiate.

We can’t negotiate with devastating floods, historic sea level rise, droughts, or extreme temperatures. They don’t negotiate.

We cannot and will not negotiate away a livable future.

Billionaires in this country have seen their wealth skyrocket by $1.8 trillion over the course of the pandemic. That wealth increase alone would pay for half of the reconciliation package.

As they continue to complain about our “entitlement society,” the ultra-wealthy have become 62% richer in the last year and half, while millions of working families are suffering like never before.

The real entitlements in our society are the billions in tax breaks the fossil fuel industry receives as they make record-breaking profits destroying our planet.

The real entitlements are the tax loopholes that shield massive corporations and their billionaire owners from paying their fair share.

So, as we move forward in Congress with these two bills, I don’t want to hear any more about how progressives and working families are acting “entitled” by demanding what is right and what is fair.

It’s time for us to stop talking about what’s politically feasible, and start talking about what’s scientifically and morally necessary.

But the truth is that I can’t do it alone, so I’m asking you directly:

Will you contribute $3 or anything you can afford to help us in our fight for climate justice? Every dollar you give will go straight toward growing our grassroots movement and building progressive power in Washington and beyond. [[link removed]]

What we have with these two bills is a chance to completely revitalize our economy with millions of good-paying, green, union jobs and to convert our energy and transportation systems away from fossil fuels once and for all.

The climate crisis is THE political, economic, environmental, national security, and moral issue of our time. We’ve come a long way, and it’s time to finish the job. It’s time to deliver.

No climate, no deal.

In solidarity,

Ed Markey
