On September 30, police in Dayton, Ohio forcibly removed a Black, paraplegic man named Clifford Owensby from his car while his 3-year old daughter sat in the back seat. Despite Owensby pleading with officers that he cannot walk without his wheelchair, they dragged him to a police cruiser — all during a traffic stop.
Footage released demonstrates yet another instance of unnecessary police brutality against an unarmed Black man.
While city officials in Dayton remained silent, Barrier to Entry PAC candidate Shenise Turner-Sloss, who is running for City Commission, spoke out and called for an outside investigation into the incident. She has been calling for justice for Owensby, as has been written about in the Washington Post, locally in WHIO7 story, and beyond.
“What we’re talking about is that an individual’s civil rights were violated, again. My voice has been consistent,” Turner-Sloss said.
