Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Today we celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day. May we honor the Native American people, their culture, their heritage, and their history.
While many people know this day as Columbus Day, observers of Indigenous Peoples’ Day condemn his participation in the violent colonization of America. Today, there are over 600 Native Nations in the US, yet these Americans are still experiencing discrimination.
It’s our responsibility as non-indigenous people to reflect and acknowledge the past while moving forward with change for our native people.
We encourage you to celebrate today with our Native American friends and neighbors by learning more about their spirited culture. Let’s honor their rich history, raise awareness of their unique struggles, and commit to a more intersectional future!
Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day!
