#1 State for Business

For the second year in a row, Virginia has been named the top state for business by CNBC! The historic investments we've made in education and workforce development, as well as the strides we've made in diversity, equity, and inclusion propelled us to the top spot. I'm proud of everything we've done to make this state the best state to do business in, and I look forward to improving even further in areas like infrastructure and health care in order to see our score go even higher next year.

Ballots Are Ready to be Cast!

We’re less than a month away from Election Day, but there’s no need to wait! Virginians can now request mail-in absentee ballots or vote early in-person. For more information, please refer to the VA Department of Election’s Citizen Portal. In the Citizen Portal, you can register to vote, check registration status, find your polling place, and apply to vote absentee by mail.

Please keep in mind the following deadlines regarding elections in Virginia:

October 12th - Last day to register to vote or update registration information

October 22nd - Last day to request mail-in absentee ballot

October 30th - Last day of in-person, early voting

November 2nd - Election day

District 13 residents can vote early in-person today at the following locations:

Loudoun County

Office of Elections in Leesburg - 750 Miller Drive SE, Suite C, Leesburg, 20175

Dulles South Recreation Center - 24950 Riding Center Drive, Chantilly, 20152

Carver Senior Center - 200 E Willie Palmer Way, Purcellville, 20132

Prince William County

Prince William County Office of Elections - 9250 Lee Avenue, Suite 1, Manassas, 20110

Haymarket Gainesville Community Library - 14870 Lightner Road, Haymarket, 20169

In concert with National Voter Registration Day, Governor Northam announced the start of Virginia’s sixth High School Voter Registration challenge, a partnership between the Governor’s Office, the Secretaries of Administration and Education, the Virginia Department of Elections, and the League of Women Voters of Virginia. High schools that achieve voter registration goals of 65% of their eligible senior class will receive a congratulatory certificate. Remember, students born on or before November 2, 2003, can register to vote in this year’s General Election. Participating schools can get credit for each student who registers to vote via the Department of Elections’ Citizen Portal by using their school’s unique URL that can be found on the League of Women Voters of Virginia website. More importantly, those young voters who are registered now will have begun a lifelong habit of civic responsibility that will reach far beyond their high school years.

Senate Page Program

Applications for the Senate Page Program are now open! The Page Program works with eager, civic-minded 13- to 14- year old Virginians to develop as a young professional and gain leadership experience. Pages will receive hands-on learning and firsthand experience of the workings of the Senate alongside several of their peers during the 60-day long session in 2022. Pages will stay in Richmond for the entirety of this legislative session.

The Senate Page Program is a historic, educational experience that dates back more than 170 years to the 1850s. Pages will have the opportunity to conduct various jobs including staffing committee meetings and speaking to visitors. Pages will also have to attend classroom activities to enhance team-building and decision-making abilities. Pages also will participate in local community service projects across the Commonwealth during the program. This all culminates in the Page Program capstone, which is a mock debate where Pages and Senators switch roles!

This is a great opportunity, perfect for any child who is interested in learning more about the government. I strongly encourage anyone who is interested to submit an application. The online application, which can be found here, is currently open. The deadline for submissions is Monday, October 18th, at 5:00pm. For more information, please refer to the Capitol Classroom website.
