Good jobs, secure families, strong communities

Dear Friend,

I hope this message finds you and your family enjoying the change of seasons here in Maine. As my kids returned to school, I was reminded how grateful I am for our teachers, volunteers and coaches and the way the people in our communities look out for each other every day.
As you may have read, the Legislature returned for a Special Session to address outstanding issues related to bonding. I am glad to say we voted that day to put an important transportation bond on this November's ballot. The bond would provide $105 million for upgrades to roads and bridges all across the state and would invest in our transportation infrastructure.
Unfortunately, three bonds that would have supported our workforce and environment did not earn the two-thirds approval necessary to be sent to referendum. As a result, Mainers like you will not be given the chance to weigh in on funding opportunities for initiatives including career and technical education, high-speed internet access, National Guard facilities upgrades, Land for Maine's Future, energy-efficient heating and toxic waste clean-up. I am disappointed you won’t get the chance to have a say directly on these issues, but we will keep moving these initiatives forward through all available pathways.
I'm looking forward to spending the next few months traveling the State and hearing from all of you about how we can make a real and positive difference for the people of Maine. Please remember you can always contact my office to ask questions and get more information. And of course, our Facebook and Twitter is updated often.

MDI High School Solar Installation

Mount Desert Island High School is the first high school in the state to go 100 percent solar! It was an honor to speak at their ribbon cutting and celebrate this momentous achievement with students, administrators and my colleagues.

Increased Access to Reproductive Health Care
|
|
I was so proud to stand with supporters to celebrate the progress we made on women’s healthcare and family planning. Working with the administration of Governor Janet Mills, we have been able to advance multiple pieces of legislation that will ensure Mainers have access to high-quality care in their communities from medical professionals they trust.
My bill repealed a ban that prevented nurse practitioners from providing abortion services. It removed the barriers, helped eliminate the financial and logistical hurdles and brought down both the health risk and financial cost.

My colleagues are amazing individuals who are working tirelessly on behalf of their districts. This fall, we've been sharing their stories with brief videos on the Maine House Democrats Facebook page. Check out the videos and get to know some of the wonderful people I get the privilege of serving with in the Maine House.

These are just a few of the highlights of what has been been happening! Thank you for being an engaged participant in our democracy and, as always, it is an honor to represent you in Augusta.
