Ballot measures are under attack, so we launched this campaign to fight back >>

Friends,

I’m excited to announce that today, The Fairness Project announced its Ballot Measure Rescue Campaign.

Ballot measures are a core part of our democracy. In the face of partisan gridlock, voters have been able to leverage ballot measures as a way to enact progress.

But as of late, extremist legislators have started fighting back against the ballot measure process — introducing legislation that would make it harder to pass important measures at the ballot box. Since the beginning of 2021, at least 87 bills have been introduced that would burden or harm the ballot measure process.

That’s why, earlier today, we launched the Ballot Measure Rescue Campaign. We’re committed to protecting this critical piece of our democracy.

What does this mean? Where we need to bring litigation, we will litigate. Where we can stop bad laws from being passed, we will run aggressive campaigns to stop these anti-democratic bills. And where the legislature refers suppressive measures to the ballot, we will fight to win those ballot campaigns.

Friend: If you’re with us in the fight to defend the ballot measure process, will you make a donation to The Fairness Project today?

Of the 87 bills introduced this year, 20 have already passed that make the ballot measure process more difficult. So we’re going on offense to protect the ballot measure process — because in recent years, it’s one of the only ways everyday people have been able to win.

Since 2016, we’ve won 20 of the 21 ballot campaigns we’ve worked on. Those wins helped us bring workers higher wages, improve and expand health care access, secure more paid leave, and so many other life-changing improvements for more than 17 million working people in America.

I’ll be honest — the assault by extremist legislators on this most-democratic tool is highly organized and well-funded. We’re partnering with other national and local organizations to fight back, but if we’re going to have the resources necessary to protect our ballot measure process, we need your help.

So, friend, if you’re with us in the fight to protect the ballot measure process, will you make a donation to The Fairness Project today?
