Thursday, October 7, 2021 - Coalition Building

There is general agreement that leadership diversity, centering the most marginalized, and coalition building are vital components of movement building but how to do them well is less clear. Hear from leading activists about how they engage with principles of intersectionality in their justice work. The objective of this movement building discussion series is to share ideas and practices as we all work toward developing more inclusive spaces and policies.

Self-Care

Self-care is an intentional practice that roots us in the present despite the oppression we may face. Regular self-care is essential for sustainable and effective activism.

Here are our self-care tips for October:

  1. Journal, however works for you! I knew the many benefits of journaling, but could never find the time or discipline. Then I discovered a "One-Line-A-Day Journal." Jotting down a quick note every day allows me to reflect way more effectively than traditional journaling and it has the fun bonus letting me see how much things have changed over the years. - Liz, development and operations manager based in Westchester, New York
  2. Ice cream *before* dinner. To quote Whole Woman's Health founder and CEO Amy Hagstrom Miller (currently challenging Texas' abortion ban, thank you, Amy!), "Living well is the best revenge." For me this looks like eating ice cream BEFORE dinner. YOLO! - Erin, co-founder and executive director, based in Washington, D.C.
  3. Stretch! I try to stretch every morning as a way to both gain more flexibility and ease my chronic back pain. It's become a calming ritual to start my morning off. -Jessica, digital outreach manager based in Washington, D.C.

See you next month!
