Friends, have you heard about my friend Michele Rayner?
Michele is a young, Black, LGBTQ woman running for Congress in the St. Petersburg area of Florida. After serving as a criminal defense attorney, she made history last year as the first openly gay Black woman to be elected to Florida's House of Representatives.
And now, with your help, she's looking to make history again. [[link removed]]
You see, a Black LGBTQ woman has never served in the House of Representatives. And Michele is the person who is going to break through that barrier. She has the drive to run a focused campaign. She has the passion to care for all her constituents and make their lives better. And she has the intelligence and grit to be an extraordinary and thoughtful leader once she's in Congress.
Let's get Michele to Congress. Chip in what you can to fuel her campaign and help her finish out this quarter's fundraising deadline strong. All donations made through this link will be split between Michele's campaign and mine. [[link removed]]
But this race is about so much more than breaking barriers, team. Because here's the truth: We are only five seats away from losing the Democratic Majority in the House.
Michele is running for an open seat that we absolutely must win to keep our majority.
Because the alternative is a candidate Donald Trump recently endorsed, calling her a "warrior." And let me tell you, we don't need any more "warriors" for Trump in the House.
Instead, Michele is a champion for abortion access, voting rights, and tackling climate change. She will ensure that, as we work our way out of this pandemic, there is justice for all those affected and left behind.
If anyone can beat Trump's handpicked candidate in Florida 13, it's Michele.
So what do you say, team ? Will you rush a donation of $10 or whatever you can to help my friend Michele get to Congress? >> [[link removed]]
I know a thing or two about being the "first." When I was elected as the Mayor of Providence, I was the first openly gay person to ever serve as mayor of a state capital.
It can be hard to be the first. But it's always gratifying to know that I won't be the last. And I know my friend Michele will break down barriers to ensure that Black LGBTQ women know their place is in the House of Representatives.
Now, let's get to work,
David Cicilline
