Dear John,

We have an important update to the email below. On August 25th, the U.S. House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection requested documents ([link removed]) with all communications between former President Donald Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey and former Speaker of the House Lee Chatfield between November 3, 2020 and January 20, 2021.

D.C. is realizing what we’ve been suspecting all along here in Michigan - our state Republicans have been involved in conversations at the highest levels leading up to the January 6th insurrection. We need to make sure that this is thoroughly investigated and are working to do so by creating a state-wide bipartisan commission. Please add your voice to mine by signing the petition here ([link removed]) .

Best,

Subject Line: On the Capitol Insurrection

Dear John,

January 6th was a dark day for our country. After the deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol aimed to prevent a peaceful transfer of power, we still don’t have answers on how that happened and thus have not been able to take precautions to make sure that does not happen again.

Unfortunately, Michigan played an especially important role in the attack. In April 2020, armed protestors took to the Michigan Capitol, entered the building, and confronted police. It’s likely that this was connected to the insurrection in January. What’s more, state Republicans met with people who participated in Jan. 6th's insurrection, signed onto a lawsuit attempting to overturn the results of the 2020 Presidential Election, and “brought a group of false electors to the state Capitol.”

Because of this, it’s especially important that we investigate ([link removed]) . I have introduced a resolution to create a bi-partisan commission to investigate Michigan's ties to the Capitol insurrection. This way, we can hold those who participated accountable and ensure that this never happens again. Please sign this petition to show support for our investigative committee: we need your voice added now to get this committee started this fall. We are up against the wind, and could use your support to focus on healing our democracy. Please support me by contributing to Lasinski for Michigan here ([link removed]) .

Best,

Donna
