On behalf of all of us, the candidates, the organizations, and the party, I apologize. I know this week might annoy many of you because of the number of emails you're receiving. The quarter is coming to an end, and we all have obligations to meet. Believe me, I hate this part of the job, but it is part of the job. The only way we can put boots on the ground and knock on doors in rural America is through your support.
Let's talk about where we are right now as a country, and I will be brief.
Folks, we are on the cusp of a government shutdown because Republicans in Congress are determined to make the Democrats look bad, and they couldn't care less about how they do it. People who work for the federal government do not deserve to be treated as political pawns, and that is exactly what the Republicans are doing right now. They are not negotiating in good faith. Frankly, they are not even negotiating.
While that is going on, the Democrats are fighting tooth and nail to pass President Biden's infrastructure bill, a monumental piece of legislation that will impact the lives of all of us for the better. I believe in this bill, and I believe our lives will instantly become better and safer after it passes. Our children need us to pass this bill, and it will pass regardless of how much Moscow Mitch and spineless Kevin McCarthy try to obstruct.
We are working hard, and I know so are you. That is what makes grassroots organizations like ours so unique. We don't have mega-corporations to turn to for funding, and we don't need them. That funding is not free, and it comes with all kinds of strings attached. I saw it when I was running for Congress. They offered me money, and I will leave it to your imagination what I told them to do with that money.
