Friend, by now you know how The Lincoln Project sees 2022 and 2024 shaking out. You know that we see a divided GOP as the best chance to accelerate their demise into a smoking ruin. You know we're going to take every chance we get to, as Steve put it, pour gasoline on that fire. Burn, baby, burn.

Texas and Florida are case studies in how we are going to operate for the next 13 months and beyond. We will continue to paint the abject failures of Abbott and DeSantis as what happens when the authoritarians have a chance to govern unchecked. Every chance we get, we are going to make the contrast clear: it's the MAGA mob vs. democracy. You're either for democracy or you are not. And we will not let them shy away from the consequences.

You also know from Texas and Florida that our strategy is working. In Texas, Abbott is having a very bad last ten days or so because he's fighting on our turf. We have him panicking. Our ads — and your advocacy — have him backpedaling at every turn. 

Help us keep it up as we wind down this quarter. Your support is helping us win not just right now, but helping us keep the MAGA mob from taking the majority next year.

What we successfully did in Texas is we defined the battlefield. The establishment Democratic Party has consistently failed at this — they keep walking into the GOP-defined fights about socialism or vaccines or Afghanistan or really anything. That is where MAGA wants them to be. If Democrats continue to fight on their battlefields, we will lose.

That's why we're defining the battlefield not just in Texas but everywhere. You're either part of the pro-democracy coalition or you aren't. There are enough voters out there who are never coming back to the GOP because of Trump. If we let GOP candidates off the hook about 1/6 and Trump and the failures of the authoritarians who are killing people to appease the mob, and let them get back to the same old arguments, we are in trouble.

This is why we'll continue to fight in Texas. It's how we're taking it to DeSantis in Florida (remember Governor Freedumb?). And it's why we all have our eyes on a certain state with a governor's race this fall. More on that soon.

No one else can define the battlefield like we can. My team and I feel very confident that if we can continue to make every race between now and 2024 about this fight — it's authoritarian vs. democracy, it's America vs. Trump all over again — then we are going to win. We have a vital role to play because we say the things that other groups won't or can’t. We go there because we have to. That gives the good guys air cover and has the bad guys - you guessed it — fighting on our turf.
