Greetings everyone,

I just left the main stage at the Women’s Funding Network (WFN) National Conference where Elizabeth Barajas-Román, President/CEO of WFN, and I discussed the power of research to propel change in the lives of women and girls. We talked about how we must understand what’s happening to know what kinds of policies and programs will make an impact at the local, state and federal levels. The conversation was energizing and helped point me again towards IWPR’s north star: We want to be the think tank of the movement.

That’s why today, I’m so excited to announce our new partnership with the Women’s Funding Network as their exclusive research partner for their global network of women's funds.

This innovative partnership will work to quantify the pandemic’s economic impact on women and identify evidence-based policies for a more gender-equitable recovery and help build a long-term strategy for creating stronger systems and institutions that support women in the workforce and in society. It will also enable WFN members to create a standard set of benchmarks for a 50-state assessment on the state of gender equity in the U.S., which can then be used by policymakers, media, and others to address these inequities.

I’m just so blown away.

I started my work in the women’s movement the summer before junior year at Howard University, volunteering at My Sister’s Place, a local shelter for abused women and their families. It was there that I learned about the collective power of women to make change–big and small. I knew then that I had found my life’s work and purpose. When I decided to go graduate school to pursue a doctoral degree, it was to become a changemaker-scholar, using my degree in the service of the communities and people I love. My friends, I am doing just that with my work here at IWPR and through our partnership with WFN.

Thank you for your ongoing support of IWPR and our important work on behalf of women and girls in the neighborhoods and communities you love.
