Hi there,
Last week I had the opportunity to speak with Nathaniel Pearlman at The Great Battlefield podcast about how ballot measures are changing people’s lives every single day.
During the interview we covered a lot — how I got my start in politics, how The Fairness Project got its start, and even the nitty-gritty of how we identify states where a ballot measure campaign would better the lives of its residents.
But today, I want to speak with you about one of our core beliefs at The Fairness Project: why ballot measures are so very important.
When elected officials and politicians refuse to act in the interests of their constituents, our government isn’t really working for the people. Ballot measures empower voters to take the power back into their own hands. By mobilizing hundreds of thousands of voters in states across the country, we’ve been able to pass some pretty incredible policies that benefit working people in America.
Since our creation in 2016, we’ve won 20 of the 21 ballot measures we’ve built campaigns around. And these very measures have helped provide workers with higher wages, expanded and improved health care access in states across the country, and provided so many more life-changing improvements for millions of Americans.
While Congress is gridlocked during these hyper-partisan times, we’ve been able to leverage ballot measures to continue to enact progress for working people across the country.
But our opponents are starting to catch up — extremist legislators have started fighting back against the ballot measure process, introducing legislation that would make it harder to pass important measures at the ballot box.
Ballot measures are one of the most democratic tools our nation has to offer, and we see these attacks on the ballot measure process as an attack on our very democracy.
We’re building our campaigns for 2021 and 2022 right now, and you can bet we’ll be running a full slate of ballot measure campaigns as we head into the 2022 midterms.
If you’re with us in the fight to pass progressive policies that improve the lives of working people in every corner of the country, will you chip in to fuel our efforts today? [[link removed]]
