Ever since Donald Trump began promoting the “big lie” that the 2020 election was “stolen,” Republicans in state legislatures across the country have been passing draconian laws designed to restrict voting access and rig American democracy against itself.
Republicans in the Texas Legislature were no exception. In fact, they’ve passed some of the most dangerous laws on the books -- by limiting ballot access, reducing voting hours, and restricting mail-in voting.
Thankfully, a new bill proposed by Democrats in the U.S. Senate known as the Freedom to Vote Act is gaining momentum. It includes common-sense measures like automatic and online voter registration, uniform early voting, a public holiday for Election Day, and improving vote by mail access.
This bill will only become law if Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema agree to reform the filibuster. So today, we’re asking you to add your name to our petition demanding that Manchin and Sinema do just that.
