John—
My campaign manager, Hannah, reached out yesterday to let you know that the first draft of the 2022 Congressional map was released – and that it’s not looking too good for our campaign.
Alright, here’s the situation. As it stands, New York’s 17th district comprises much of Westchester and Rockland Counties. But the newly proposed map from the New York Independent Redistricting Commission would shift our district to comprise more of Putnam County, a district that went for Trump in 2020.
If this map, or a similar one, were implemented, Republicans and potentially even other Democrats would jump at the opportunity to unseat me — and it would be much more difficult for our team to win re-election.
Preparing for unfavorable redistricting means we need to be ready to conduct voter outreach in places where we haven’t competed before. That’s possible, but to tell you the truth, it will cost a lot of money. That’s why my team and I decided to extend our $15,000 fundraising drive another 24 hours. Please, if you’re able:
In just a few weeks, we’ll be in the last quarter of the year, and we’ll have to start ramping up our planning for the upcoming primary. I know that our movement has what it takes to win no matter what the parameters of our district look like, but we can’t do it without your support.
Thank you for reading, and I’ll provide updates when I have them.
