New York State’s independent redistricting commission just released a first draft of its Congressional map for 2022, and I’ll be honest: it’s not looking good for Mondaire.

If this new map is implemented, Mondaire will have a much redder district. The map moves him into Trump Country — Putnam County, which is in our proposed district, went 54-46 for Trump. Rockland County, which Mondaire would largely retain, nearly went for Trump too: 50-49.

By saddling him with a much more Republican and much less diverse electorate, the proposed map makes Mondaire vulnerable to challenges in both primary and general elections. Securing reelection for Mondaire will be much more difficult and expensive.

Republicans can do the math. So can we. That’s why we’re setting a goal of $15,000 in the next 24 hours. It’s ambitious, but this team has stepped up to help us hit major goals in the past. So we’re asking:

Can you make a contribution today to help us meet our $15,000 goal so that Mondaire can stay competitive after redistricting? We wouldn’t ask if it weren’t so important.

This new map would leave us vulnerable to challenges in the primary election and general election. Mondaire has already accomplished so much in his first eight months in office, and his work is just getting started.

But with your support — even if it’s just $5 or $10 — we’ll be prepared to compete and win no matter what.
