20 years ago today I was a senior in high school when the twin towers fell and
so many lives were lost.

Friend,

20 years ago today, the twin towers fell and so many lives were lost.

Heroic first responders sprinted towards certain death looking for lives to
save.

Courageous civilians dropped everything to bring those around them to safety.

That day was supposed to be America’s darkest hour.

It was designed to bring us to our knees.

And, don’t get me wrong, it shook us to our core.

But out of the ashes, the spirit that unites us as Americans emerged stronger,
more resilient, and more determined to defend freedom than ever before.

The events that took place that day led me to join the Marine Corps and serve
my country. I wanted to defend this nation, but I also wanted to be part of
sending a signal to the world thatyou can’t attack America without facing
devastating consequences.

As a nation, we promised to never forget the 2,977 lives that were lost that
day and the innumerable acts of selfless heroism that outshone the darkness of
evil and terror.

Today, I encourage every American to pause to keep that promise –– and if you
have children or grandchildren who weren’t alive to witness that day, I
encourage you to share with them what you saw and felt on 9/11.

I also want to take a moment to say to my fellow veterans and their families,
that despite what has happened under President Biden in Afghanistan, your
service and sacrifice was not made in vain.

America represents freedom and liberty for all the world –– and for that
reason we will always be the prime target of those who wish to spread evil.

That is why I will never stop fighting to strengthen and secure America, and
I’m proud to have you with me.

We must do everything possible to keep our country not only safe, but also
free.

Thank you for joining me in remembrance,

Mike Gallagher
