Dearest Comrades,

Following our new social & business meeting pattern, September features a regular business meeting (with a special guest)! Below you'll find a handful of announcements about what the chapter is up to right now - and how you can get involved!

Here are some details about the business meeting first:
Monday - September 13th, 2021 | 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Zoom | Register here!
The work:

  • Green New Deal for Public Schools
  • Abolition Resolution
  • Motion to Oppose the "Let's Do Better" ballot initiative
  • Report backs, announcements, community welfare and...

Our special guest from national - regional organizer Glenn :) - will be leading a training during the second half of the business meeting. Here's a quick blurb about the training - which should be particularly interesting to new/ish members! See you there!

Building a Mass Working Class Organization
Description: Why build a mass organization and what will it take? This training includes historical context, discussions, and breakouts to explore the idea of building a mass organization, and why DSA is committed to becoming a mass working-class organization.

What you will take from it: a base level understanding of Y/DSA as a political project, the fundamentals of our uniting politics, and more clarity around what weโ€™re trying to build together.

๐ŸŒน DSA Orientation
Next meeting: Wednesday, September 15th & 29th | 7:00 - 8:30 PM

๐ŸŒน Abolition Working Group
Next meeting: Wednesday, September 15th | 6:00 - 7:00 PM  Join us here!
On September 13, Denver City Council will consider extending a contract with Environmental Hazmat Services (EHS), a contractor responsible for the "clean up" aspect of traumatic displacements of unhoused encampments. While the displacements themselves are objectionable, we're particularly concerned about EHS because they're abusive to our neighbors, bad at the job they're contracted to do, and actively work with DPD to overcharge the city for security services.

Check out this video about EHS, then use this handy list of talking points to contact your City Council member (plus the two at-large members) and ask them to vote no on this contract.

๐ŸŒน {Newly Minted} Palestine Working Group (#wg-palestine on Slack)
Next meeting: Monday, September 13th & 20th| 6:00 - 7:00 PM  Join us here!
The Palestine working group met for the first time this past week. A large coalition of groups was represented at the meeting and we discussed possible campaigns/targets we could pursue locally. Join us and get involved!

๐ŸŒน EcoSocialist Committee
Next meeting: Monday, September 13th & 20th| 7:00 - 8:00 PM  Join us here!
The committee meets every other Monday over Zoom with in-person options in the works. We are taking the lead here in Denver for the nationwide Green New Deal for Public Schools campaign so teachers, school staff, parents- and youth especially - join us!

Next meeting: Monday, September 20th | 6:00 - 7:00 PM Join us here!
This Sunday (9/12) at 3pm we'll be kicking off a canvass for Bryan Lindstrom for Aurora City Council hosted by current Aurora City Council members Alison Coombs and Juan Marcano! We'll be meeting at Hinkley HS parking lot in Aurora. For more info, email electoral@denverdsa.org

๐ŸŒน NEWR Fundraising & Signature Gathering Canvass
Next meeting: Monday, September 20th | 7:00 - 8:00 PM Join us here!
As we prepare for a wave of evictions across the country in the coming weeks and months - we invite you to canvass alongside us or donate if you are unable to join. We are hoping to use these donations to hire another full-time canvasser to take us through to the deadline. Help stop unjust evictions in Denver with NEWR! (And don't forget to follow the campaign on Instagram & Twitter)!

๐ŸŒน Housing Justice Committee
Next meeting: Wednesday, October 6th | 7:00 - 8:00 PM Join us here!
The Housing Justice Committee is partnering with the Covid 19 Eviction Defense Project to coordinate emergency outreach and aid responses to the coming wave of evictions as CDC protections expire. If you will have some spare time in September and want to help mitigate the crisis, please email Wren at housingjustice.committee@denverdsa.org!

๐ŸŒน Steering Committee Meeting
Next meeting: "Organizing Council" for all members, Steering and Committee Chairs.
Wednesday, September 16th | 6:00 - 7:00 PM  Join us here!
Our chapter's Steering Committee meets every 2nd and 4th Monday to help guide the chapter at large and promote cohesion between committees and working groups. These meetings are open to all, so please come with any questions or concerns! Members are heavily encouraged to attend steering meetings - which are often a good way to learn about what all parts of the chapter are doing.

The Labor Committee is partnering with the EcoSoc Committee to coordinate actions centered around the Green New Deal for Public Schools! Picket line is at 17775 e 30th Ave. Aurora, CO.

๐ŸŒน Tech Committee Meeting
Next meeting: Tuesday, September 28th | 6:30 - 8:00 PM  Join us here!
