Forward Together New Orleans establishes Hurricane Ida relief fund
The Mayor’s Fund will provide direct aid to New Orleans' most vulnerable impacted by the storm.
Forward Together New Orleans has established a relief fund ([link removed]) to help the people of New Orleans make a full recovery from the impacts of Hurricane Ida. The fund’s primary objective is to get people what they need immediately. Relief funds will go directly to non-profit partners that are able to distribute this assistance to those most vulnerable. This fund will work in concert with the City of New Orleans, the Mayor’s Office of Youth and Family Services, and the New Orleans Health Department, as well as philanthropic and corporate partners yet to be announced.

Hurricane Ida seriously impacted the city of New Orleans and surrounding areas last week. When the storm had passed, nearly 600,000 people were left without power. Entergy said Ida damaged or destroyed 30,679 poles, 36,469 spans of wire and 5,959 transformers – "more than hurricane Katrina, Ike, Delta and Zeta combined."

With record heat, no power, and little access to resources including food, many New Orleanians are struggling to provide for their own basic needs. As power is restored and New Orleanians return home, so many are in need of financial resources immediately to begin their recovery.

About FTNO

Forward Together New Orleans is dedicated to helping all the people of New Orleans. Our goal is to make the city a fairer, more inclusive place - a city of opportunity for all. We work toward this goal by forging partnerships between community organizations and the business and philanthropic sectors. These partnerships are meant to improve the lives of New Orleanians in every corner of the city.

Forward Together New Orleans is a 501(c)(3) organization that launched in 2018 as the transition committee for Mayor-elect LaToya Cantrell. Founded to reflect the collaborative, grassroots leadership Mayor LaToya Cantrell has brought to City Hall, the goal is for FTNO to thrive long past her tenure in office, a vehicle that offers nonprofit, partnership support to future New Orleans mayors as they encounter challenges both immediate and long-term.
