John,

In case you missed it, great news last week: Gov. Cooper vetoed HB 398, which would  repeal our Pistol Purchase Permitting system! This is a huge victory for public safety in our state.

NCGV Acton Fund is working hard to ensure that this dangerous bill does not become law but we need your help to sustain Gov. Cooper’s veto. Can you help fund our grassroots campaign to stop this disastrous bill?

The veto couldn’t come at a more critical time, as 2020 was the most violent year in the 21st century and 2021 is likely to be similar.

HB 398 would repeal one of the few gun laws proven to save lives by reducing homicides and suicides. Unfortunately, Black North Carolinians are suffering the most number of homicides. In 2018, Black North Carolinians were 22% of the NC population yet experienced 67% of all homicides. These tragedies would occur more frequently without our Pistol Purchase Permitting system. Follow this link to see NCGV’s opinion piece in today’s News and Observer about this issue.

We must do everything that we can to prevent these numbers from continuing to rise. Please help fund our efforts to prevent homicides and suicides in our state.

Together we can save our handgun permitting system and save lives.
-- Becky
