On Labor Day, we celebrate the contributions that workers and the labor movement have made to our great nation. Hard working people built America into the most powerful country and economy in the world. Not only must we recognize their achievements, we must strive to protect them for the future.

Labor Day is a day of reflection, but the fight to protect workers in this country goes on. States throughout the nation have chipped away at the rights of workers to unionize and have shifted the balance of power so employers can benefit.

As union membership has dropped over the past few decades, income inequality has risen. Workers rights and unions strengthen America's middle class, the backbone of our great nation.

I won’t ever stop fighting to give workers a fair shot in this country, and I hope you stand with me.
