As I write this, Parliamentary Recess is just coming to an end and I am looking forward to returning to Westminster.

Recess means more time to spend in the constituency and last month I toured Banff and Buchan visiting businesses and meeting people as we reopen from the pandemic.

It has been a genuine pleasure to speak to so many constituents from Fordyce to Fraserburgh and from Banff to Boddam, hearing their concerns and helping with their issues.

One issue which came up in every town and village I visited so far was access to recycling centres.

During the pandemic, an appointment booking system and limit on visits was imposed at sites across the shire.

We have also seen an increase in fly-tipping and, with restrictions relaxed, many are wondering when sites will get back to normal.

I have therefore been in contact with Aberdeenshire Council to ask when we can expect the booking system to be removed to make it is as easy as possible to access recycling centres again.

I have also been conducting more face-to-face surgeries again as well as continuing the virtual surgeries which I have been holding throughout the pandemic.

August also saw the Olympics and the start of the Paralympics with lots of success locally. Neah Evans of Cuminestown came home with a silver medal in cycling and Kim Little of Mintlaw was instrumental in Team GB making the women's football quarterfinals.

Most recently, Conner Morrison has had a great Paralympic debut at the swimming in Tokyo – coming second in his qualifying heat and missing out on a medal by only a couple of seconds.

As I get ready to return to a weekly routine in London, I will continue with face to face surgeries and visits around the constituency – usually towards the end of each week.

[EU Settlement Scheme - time running out]

Six flood destroyed King Edward bridges to be rebuilt following campaigns

All six bridges in the King Edward area of Aberdeenshire which were destroyed by heavy rainfall are to be rebuilt.

In September 2019, heavy and persistent rainfall destroyed the bridges, which have been left that way ever since.
Now, after years of campaigning and persistence, Aberdeenshire Council has announced they will be rebuilt.
Plans for the reinstating of the bridges will be heard at next week’s Banff and Buchan Area Committee meeting.

David hails UK Film and TV Production Restart Scheme success

More than 600 feature films and television productions have gone into production across the UK since the scheme was announced in July last year as the industry has moved into pandemic recovery thanks to the UK Government-funded Film and TV Production Restart Scheme.

David congratulates local Olympic medal winner

Banff and Buchan MP has congratulated local constituent, Neah Evans after she won a silver medal at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Ms Evans lives on farm near Cuminestown, Turriff and worked as a veterinary surgeon before becoming a full-time athlete in 2017.

David hails Banff and Buchan's Union dividend worth over £200 million

Banff and Buchan MP David Duguid has emphasised the value to Banff and Buchan of Scotland remaining in the UK based on the Scottish Government’s latest Government Expenditure and Revenue Scotland (GERS) figures GERS figures which show that Scotland's place in the Union is worth over £200 million to Banff and Buchan.

In my travels around the constituency, I have heard many concerns from constituents particularly around public services which, although were understandably curtailed during the Covid-19 pandemic, should be able to start getting back to close to normal now.

UK evacuates 15,000 from Kabul

Over the space of a fortnight, in an unprecedneted situation, the UK evacuated some 15,000 people from Kaul.

Many thousands of Afghan women, children and others most in need will be welcomed to the UK. The new Afghan Citizens’ Resettlement Scheme (ACRS) will be one of the most generous resettlement schemes in the history of the UK.

If the Taliban continue to abuse basic human rights, they cannot expect to enjoy any legitimacy in the eyes of the Afghan people or the international community. The Foreign Secretary has been clear that everyone has an interest in ensuring that Afghanistan must not again become a safe-haven for terrorists.

The Taliban have to understand that they will be accountable for that, and for any abuses that take place on their watch.
