John.
The most extreme abortion ban in the country has been allowed by the courts to take effect in Texas today. This is a devastating blow to abortion rights -- but we are not backing down.
We are fighting back -- and we need your help!
Known as SB 8, the Texas law bans abortion after approximately six weeks, before many people know they're pregnant. Providers say it affects 85% of the abortions in the state. It allows anyone to sue abortion providers or any person who helps someone obtain an abortion -- AND collect $10,000 for each successful claim. Even rideshare drivers who pick up patients from health centers after their abortions could be sued.
This extreme and unconstitutional law is just one reason why 2021 is already the worst year on record for abortion rights -- with states enacting 90 abortion restrictions so far. And the Trump-packed Supreme Court is poised to overturn Roe v. Wade.
The right wing is watching what happens in Texas and hoping it can be a model for many more restrictions. We cannot afford to be silent.
Here are two urgent actions you can take right now to help fight back:
1. Join today's national day-of-action organized by the Trust Respect Access coalition in Texas. Share this tweet and follow the hashtag #BansOffOurBodies

2. Tell your senators that we are not going backward, and they need to protect our right to make decisions about our bodies.
