** MCN'S SUMMER ROUNDUP

MCN had a busy summer! We made sure to use the beautiful summer days to inform and empower our communities. One of our top priority's remained to educate our communities about the COVID-19 vaccine and its importance and safety to our neighbors. We held two vaccination pop-ups in partnership with the Interfaith Public Health Network, BronxCare, and Masjid Al-Nur Islam in the Bronx, which helped get dozens of our community members vaccinated.

Along with vaccination education, COVID-19 continues to create food insecurity in our neighborhoods. Families are still struggling to make ends meet and settle into long-term economic stability. As such, our MCN Serves team held two food pop-ups; and established a community fridge at the Masjid Muhammad Ali in Central Harlem.

We also concluded our Muslim Women's Civic Empowerment Forum by convening our group of women that we engaged throughout the year with an in-person trip to see the High Line, New York, and their exhibit on the impact of drone warfare on families post-9/11. It was a powerful afternoon of story-telling, being together in a community, and learning about the effects of warfare.

MCN continued its tradition of holding our youth social justice book club this summer. We had 26 youth participate in two rounds of the book club. We read Kekla Magoon's book, How It Went Down. The reflections shared by our youth have been fascinating and it proves that our book club is a platform for youth to exchange ideas and connect with each other on social justice issues.

For more on how impactful MCN's youth programs have been, check out our Social and Emotional Learning Report:

Along with our youth programs, MCN wants to highlight the incredible collaborative work we've been able to achieve with the help of the Muslim Stakeholder's Forum that we convened over the past couple of months. This forum informs the Muslim serving community-based organizations on lessons learned and how to partner and leverage our strengths to serve our communities. A highlight of our wins is demonstrated below:

While we wrap up the summer, MCN is looking forward to a year of growth and deepening our impact. MCN has been selected by the New York State to help reach out to community members who may be eligible for the $2.1 billion Excluded Workers Fund. We will be taking a much more gender-sensitive approach to all of our programmings thanks to the New York Women's Foundation, and lastly, we will deepen our programming in Brooklyn, thanks to the Brooklyn Community Foundation.

We cannot do this work without your support, therefore, please consider a gift of any amount to help us continue to build a strong and united Muslim community!

With Gratitude,

Aniqa Nawabi
Executive Director
