Last night, the Supreme Court took no emergency action to stop SB 8, the most extreme abortion ban in the country, from taking effect. This means that in Texas, abortions are now banned after six weeks, before many people even know they are pregnant.

And that’s not all. The law allows Texans to act sue anyone who provides abortions or helps someone access abortions—from doctors to ride-share drivers. The effects of this bill are devastating and will have an immediate impact.

Last night’s decision is a stark reminder that elections have consequences.
