Dear John,

The good news this week is that Andrew Cuomo is officially gone as governor. The bad news is that the new boss is the same as the old one. Right off the bat, it is quite clear that New Yorkers will be getting more of the exact same under Governor Kathy Hochul. While she pledged to wipe the slate clean and purge all of Cuomo's corrupt cronies from her administration, this could not be further from what has happened. Top Cuomo co-conspirators such as nursing home order and cover-up architect Health Commissioner Howard Zucker, SUNY Chancellor Jim Malatras, and many other Cuomo appointees are still employed with their cushy taxpayer-funded jobs and absolutely zero accountability for their culpability in helping Cuomo execute his corrupt actions.

In addition to keeping the Albany swamp alive and well, Hochul appointed an anti-police, pro-criminal radical leftist as her Lieutenant Governor. Senator Brian Benjamin, who is now serving as the number two in state government, has called for defunding the police, championed more rights and privileges for criminals and voted for record tax and spending increases. As we have said all along, getting rid of Corrupt Cuomo is just a start, but to truly change New York, we must elect a Republican governor.

The Democrats in Albany aren’t the only ones wreaking havoc and destruction. Joe Biden’s disastrous withdrawal of Afghanistan took a deadly turn this week with the ISIS K attack on the airport in Kabul, killing 13 of our brave U.S. servicemen and nearly 200 Afghans trying to escape the Taliban. The sheer incompetence and disregard for American lives exhibited by this White House is nothing short of stunning. We have a very serious crisis of leadership that is threatening the safety of our nation and its citizens. Our deepest condolences are with the families and loved ones of our fallen heroes who deserved so much better.

We value all of your feedback and questions.

NYGOP Team
Question from Last Week:

From Seth: Who is Kathy Hochul's pick for Lieutenant Governor, Brian Benjamin? No one has even heard of him.

Answer: Thanks for your question, Seth. Kathy Hochul's selection of an LG was her first major decision as governor and sends a huge message about her judgment and what kind of tone she wants to set as governor. That's why her appointment of Brian Benjamin is so disturbing. Senator Benjamin is a NYC radical leftist who has made the cornerstone of his political career working to dismantle law enforcement and empower criminals. As New Yorkers are being victimized by massive surges in violent crime across the state, Kathy Hochul has chosen to double down on the dangerous agenda that created this nightmare. If we are going to save New York and bring back common-sense policies, we need to break up the one-Party Democrat rule that is responsible for this mess. Watch Highlights:
Andrew Cuomo's Going Away Party!
Thank you to the hundreds of New Yorkers who joined our celebration marking the end of Cuomo's reign of corruption and terror. We heard from a number of our great Republican elected officials and the excitement about our Party's prospects for ushering in a new era of change was palpable. The New York Republican Party is capturing this energy to elect a Republican governor who will save our state!
Truth Report:
Incoming LG Brian Benjamin is a Pro-Criminal/Anti-Police Radical With a Shady Ethics History
  • Benjamin is a champion of “defund the police” and repealing 50A, putting our police officers at risk.
50 a repeal:

  • He wrote “Less is More” Act, which makes it harder to reincarcerate parole violators and rewards them after violations

  • Pushed for the Closing of Rikers Island, which would put jails in the heart of residential communities.

  • Supported by radical groups like “Indivisible”
Indivisible Brooklyn:
  • During his comptroller campaign, he got busted receiving thousands in “straw donations” from people who never heard of him, one was a two year-old child.

  • Benjamin was caught taking a salary from a notorious, shady, subprime mortgage firm.

  • Has a history of misusing campaign funds to pay for personal/non-campaign related items.
  • He and Cuomo share close allies. His first election to the senate was orchestrated by one of Cuomo’s closest confidantes, Manhattan County Democrat boss Keith Wright, who other Democrats accused of election suppression in trying to install him into office.

Candidate of the Week!
Every week we are choosing a candidate to highlight who needs your support!

Paolo Pironi
Candidate- Nassau County Legislator

Paolo Pironi is a private sector businessman who built his career helping families achieve the American dream of homeownership. He believes too many Long Island families and senior citizens are having their dreams destroyed by crushing property taxes and a broken assessment system that has forced people to sell their homes and sacrifice quality of life. A Lieutenant in the Fire Department and Long Island Builders Institute Board of Directors member, Paolo is running for office to better serve taxpayers as their representative on the Nassau County Legislature.

As your next County Legislator, Paolo will work tirelessly to reform the broken property tax assessment system which increased property taxes for the majority of Nassau County homeowners. He will also work to help homeowners grieve their assessment levels and secure the property tax exemptions they are entitled to under the law, including those for senior citizens, veterans, and volunteer firefighters. He will also work to bring reforms, greater transparency, openness, and honesty to the County’s assessment process which has been riddled with problems that both frustrate and confuse residents.

NYGOP Must See News:
Republicans like state GOP Chairman Nick Langworthy see it differently, pointing to Benjamin's support for defunding police departments, a position that came amid protests and demonstrations last year following the killing of George Floyd. Hochul picked Benjamin out of political necessity as she prepares for a likely Democratic primary in 2022 when she seeks a full term, Langworthy said. "This is going to be about political expediency and pandering to the far left for Kathy Hochul," Langworthy said. "This is not going to be about moderation or what's best for New York state." And Benjamin's selection by Hochul is also a sign the Democratic base has shifted further to the left, said Conservative Party Chairman Gerry Kassar. "Her first actions are to appease the New York City Democrat elected officials who ran the gamut from being to the left to being admittedly socialist Democrats," Kassar said. It's not yet clear what sort of impact Benjamin's role will be in the new Hochul administration. Hochul on Thursday indicated she wants Benjamin to be a full partner for her going forward in New York, and he will likely be fulfilling a role of bolstering support for a governor from western New York who who will have shore up her name recognition in the five boroughs of New York City.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s self-pitying farewell address on Monday led critics to blast him as a “classic narcissist” and wannabe “martyr” who blamed everyone but himself for the sexual harassment scandal that forced him to resign in disgrace. New York state Republican Committee Chairman Nick Langworthy said Cuomo’s prerecorded speech “broke the mold” employed by politicians whose misdeeds led to their downfalls, and instead gave him “another opportunity to congratulate himself.” “It was a disgusting display but a classic narcissist isn’t going to exit the stage quietly,” Langworthy said. “Normally, people slink away quietly but this guy had several press conferences in the last couple of days — and no one is listening,” he said. State Sen. Alessandra Biaggi (D-Bronx), a survivor of childhood sexual abuse who was among the first lawmakers to demand Cuomo’s resignation, said he “took one last opportunity as Governor to undermine the survivors of his abuse, and attempt to rewrite his legacy.”

New York Republican State Committee Chairman Nick Langworthy criticized Hochul’s selection of the state senator from Harlem, the Washington Free Beacon reported. “New Yorkers are being shot, stabbed, raped, robbed and attacked in huge crime surges across our state and Kathy Hochul doubled down on Democrats’ dangerous agenda by appointing a ‘Defund the Police’ radical leftist to serve as her second in command,” Langworthy tweeted. “This reckless pick proves that she represents a continuation of the same failed policies and underscores the urgency of electing a Republican governor in 2022 who will bring common sense and balance to New York,” the GOP boss tweeted.

The distressing images out of Afghanistan appear to be having an instant political impact. President Biden has been facing a barrage of bipartisan criticism for over a week and a half for his handling of the hastily organized evacuation efforts, where U.S. forces are rushing to rescue as many Americans and allied civilians as quickly as possible following the lightning-fast takeover of the capital city of Kabul by repressive Taliban forces. The president’s being accused by both Republicans and some Democrats for underestimating the Taliban and overestimating the strength of the now collapsed U.S.-backed Afghan government and military. Amid the crisis in Kabul, the president’s approval rating is plunging, according to two new public opinion surveys released on Tuesday. Biden’s numbers stand at 41% approval and 55% disapproval in a new USA Today/Suffolk University national poll. That’s a dramatic drop for a president whose approval rating, until a week and a half ago, had averaged in the low to mid 50s since taking over in the White House in late January. While Democrats are sticking with the president – 87% give him a thumbs up on the job he’s doing – his approval among independents stood at just 32%.

An Alabama Army combat veteran who nearly died in Afghanistan criticized President Biden’s chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan as "disgusting" to watch and a "disheartening" end to the 20 years of sacrifices made by members of the military and others. Colin Wayne Erwin, a former Army staff sergeant, almost died on May 3, 2012, when a rocket attack on his base in Paktika province blew up a gym with Wayne inside. He suffered severe injury with shrapnel in his legs, nerve damage in his back, and a traumatic brain injury. Wayne’s long road to recovery began at Bagram Air Base, the massive military hub in Afghanistan that the Biden administration chose to abandon before U.S. citizens and their allies were fully evacuated from the country. It is now under Taliban control.
