Texans could soon lose access to abortion care

John—

Texas’ draconian abortion ban (SB 8) is set to go into effect on September 1, and we need all hands on deck to support Avow Texas’ efforts to protect abortion access for 29 million people in Texas and hold lawmakers accountable for their votes to restrict access to abortion.

SB 8 bans abortion after six weeks of pregnancy — before many people even know they’re pregnant; which is a blatantly unconstitutional attack on Texans’ reproductive freedom. But that’s not all — it sets up a horrifying system of vigilantism by offering a bounty to anyone who successfully sues someone for helping a pregnant person seeking abortion care after about 6 weeks in pregnancy.

Avow is fighting against this heinous ban and working to secure unrestricted abortion care and reproductive rights for all Texans through community-building, education, and political advocacy.

We need your urgent help, John, to fuel Avow Texas’ on-the-ground efforts and ensure pregnant people seeking an abortion in Texas can get the support and care they need!

Make no mistake, the anti-choice politicians behind SB 8 are using this dystopian law to intimidate abortion providers and saddle them with lawsuits that could force clinics to close. These politicians know that once clinics close, it is very difficult for them to reopen.1 Their efforts could force pregnant people to go without the care they need — or require them to travel hundreds of miles across state lines to seek that care. That’s why Avow Texas is mobilizing supporters in Texas and working with other groups all across the state to help people get the care they need and advocate for policies that safeguard, rather than roll back, reproductive freedom.

Please make an urgent gift today to support Avow Texas’ work to ensure every body in Texas has access to safe, legal abortion care.

In solidarity,

Adrienne Kimmell
Acting President, NARAL Pro-Choice America
