Dear
John,
Today is not just another day.
August 28 is an important day in modern American history, and we want to call it to your attention.
It's the anniversary of Emmett Till's murder (1955), Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech (1965), Hurricane Katrina's devastation (2005), and Barack
Obama's acceptance of the Democratic nomination (2008).
Its significance is precisely why the Young, Black & Giving Back Institute chose this date to host Give 8/28 Day -- a day of fundraising during Black Philanthropy Month that's dedicated solely to supporting Black-led, Black-benefiting organizations.

We think Give 8/28 Day should become as well known as Giving Tuesday is for white donors. Black organizations are at the heart of serving
our communities and demanding change, but too often they get overlooked compared to other organizations that receive more mainstream attention. You might be surprised by how few of these incredible, well-established Black organizations you've heard of before.
The progressive community and nonprofit sector are still falling short when it comes to investing in Black organizations. As a nonprofit leader and women's rights advocate, I want to be part of the solution.
That's why the National Partnership is proud to be an official sponsor of Give 8/28 Day. Our sponsorship gift is specifically supporting a group of 52 small, Black-led organizations that work on Black maternal health and reproductive justice -- two issues central to the National Partnership's mission.
To support these incredible groups, just go to [link removed] , scroll until you see our logo and choose the organization that resonates with you; they're all amazing!
We already work closely with some of these great organizations, but each and every one of them deserve to be known, recognized and supported! Take a minute to get to know them, and choose one that is making a difference in your community.
Thanks for all that you do.
Sincerely,
- Debra

President
PS. Having trouble narrowing down the groups to support? No problem! You can give to as many as you'd like by repeating the donate process.
