John,
At Barrier to Entry PAC and Pay Your Interns PAC, we pride ourselves in authentically living our values as we work together to build a more equitable, inclusive government -- starting with dismantling socioeconomic barriers to entry into the political space.
Our two sister PACs began as a passion project. Led by a trifecta of three determined young women who share the vision of achieving meaningful social change through lifting up the voices of everyday people, in just 6 months, we have built a community dedicated to making sure working-class people have a seat at the table in Democratic politics.
And as a truly scrappy, grassroots movement, your advocacy and support is critical to our success -- which is why we want to make sure you feel like part of the team by personally introducing ourselves to you today!

Eden McKissick-Hawley, Founder
After working as a campaign manager and finance director for women running for office, Eden saw the impacts of a system designed to keep working people on the sidelines. Time and time again, she heard the same questions being asked of her candidates by national groups: “How much money can you put into your own campaign?” “How quickly can you quit your job and campaign full time?” “How much money can you raise out of your personal network?” After the 2020 election cycle, she started an organization specifically designed to address systemic issues. Her ultimate goal is to lift up working-class and middle-class change makers rather than discouraging them from being a part of the political system. When Eden is not in a fit of rage over the state of American politics, she can be found making bagels, cooking, and spending time outside.

Megan Nien-Yun Clark, Digital Director
As a former teacher who saw the effects of socioeconomic inequalities first-hand in the education system, Megan returned to grad school to get her Master’s Degree in Digital Communications from Syracuse University with a vision to leverage cause-driven messaging across online platforms. She comes to BTE/PYI from a digital consulting firm that specialized in fundraising for progressive campaigns and nonprofits. Having built comprehensive digital programs for members of Congress, state delegation officials, as well as up-and-coming political outsiders, Megan is excited to continue pursuing her passions for social impact and creative digital strategy with us. In her spare time, Megan loves hanging with her service dog Butters, kayaking, hiking, reading, and yoga.

Jimena Esparza, Social Media Coordinator
Jimena worked as a college and career advisor where she saw the massive socioeconomic inequalities that exist in our low-income communities and beyond. With several years of community organizing, Jimena comes to BTE/PYI with the firsthand knowledge of the deep distrust lower-income communities have with our elected officials on either side. Having seen the disconnect between our elected officials and working class communities, Jimena hopes to take part in transforming the system so that more people that look like members of the communities that shape our country can be represented in our election systems. In her spare time, Jimena enjoys hiking, camping, riding her bike, and cuddling with her cats, Walter and Nina.
While the three of us might be at the helm of this movement, we know that in order to have a powerful impact, we must continue expanding our team with like-minded, passionate, and talented individuals who reflect our values.
That’s why we’re asking you today to pitch in anything you can to help us recruit volunteers, mobilize supporters, hire more staff, and garner as much grassroots advocacy as we can. Will you rush a contribution right now to help strengthen our movement and support our growing team?
