This week we took an exciting step forward for the Queen City when we cut the ribbon on the new Rex Theatre. Last year, we partnered with the Manchester Development Corporation and the Palace Theatre to give new life to the formerly dilapidated theater. It was a blight in the middle of our downtown, and now we've turned it around as a promising new entertainment venue that will draw visitors and performers into our city. As we keep investing in our city and building attractions, we'll continue building up our vibrant and bustling downtown.

International Day of the Girl

The theme for this year’s International Day of the Girl, last Friday, was “GirlForce.” As a young girl growing up in ward 8, I never thought I’d become the first woman to be elected mayor of my hometown. But, anyone that is from the Queen City knows, Manchester girls are unstoppable.
I want to recognize the GirlForce that makes up my campaign staff. I'm lucky to have these strong women working with me to ensure girls and women have a strong voice in our city.

Canvassing Across the City

I met Mary (her friends call her Mike) on Sunday, while knocking doors in ward 7. She invited me into her house to show me the picture of me she put up on her refrigerator. She said it makes her happy, and I'm thankful for her support!

Cross-country Race at Derryfield Park

It was a beautiful day for a cross-country race! I was able to head over to Derryfield Park Tuesday afternoon to watch my daughter Kat run in the city meet.
Congrats to everyone from Central, Memorial, West & Trinity that ran!

Manchester Fire Department Pinning

On Wednesday night, the Manchester Fire Department held their pinning ceremony at the Currier Museum of Art, which recognized the efforts of our firefighters and welcomed 5 new individuals into the department.
I want to extend my congratulations to Assistant Chief Brendan Burns, District Chief David Patten and Captain Matthew Lamothe on their much-deserved promotions.
I’d also like to congratulate new Lieutenants Christopher Grover, Chad Gamache, Scott Brassard, David Lang, Joseph Keller, and Ryan Simmons.
Congratulations also to the new firefighters sworn in today. Jeffrey, Daniel, Mason, Craig and Morgan -- welcome to the Manchester Fire Department!

Rex Theatre Ribbon Cutting

On Thursday, we officially cut the ribbon for Manchester's newest entertainment venue -- the Rex Theatre.
Last year, we began conversations with the Manchester Development Corporation and The Palace Theatre to see how we could work together to renovate a historic, but blighted building downtown.
Now, on October 30, the Rex will once again be another entertainment destination in our downtown. It's a true testament to the collaborative spirit of our city, and I want to thank everyone involved for working diligently to bring this exciting new venture back to Manchester.

Pam and Don voted absentee at City Hall because they won't be able to make it to the polls on November 5th.
It was quick and easy for them, and if you can't get to the polls on Election Day you can vote absentee in advance too!

Transformed 300-seat Rex Theatre ready for its Queen City debut

Mayor Joyce Craig joined officials from the Palace Theatre for a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday afternoon at the Rex. The first formal event at the 300-seat multi-use theater and function space at 23 Amherst St. will take place on Oct. 30.

Halloween at City Hall set for Oct. 31: Free books and candy for the kids

The Second Annual ‘Halloween at City Hall’ event will take place on October 3 from 3-5 p.m. Students, parents and children are invited to come to City Hall to pick out a free book from the Bookmobile, meet the Mayor, grab a treat and show off their costumes.
“I’m excited we’re able to host Halloween at City Hall again this year,” said Mayor Joyce Craig. “With support from the Manchester School District and Manchester City Library, the Bookmobile will be here to hand out free books everyone that stops by.”
Weather permitting, the event is scheduled to take place in City Hall Plaza, 900 Elm Street. In case of poor weather, Halloween at City Hall will be held in the Aldermanic Chambers inside City Hall.
