Queen's Speech Debate

The State Opening of Parliament is followed by a week of themed debates. I chose Climate Change; a topic which many raise with me. Frustratingly, the debate was cut short but you can view my 3 minutes here.

Amber Rudd's Transport Summit

Last Friday I spoke at Amber Rudd's Transport Summit in Hastings to discuss all the work we have been doing in the past year and plans for the future to improve our transport in the South East.
Autism Stress Alert

I was pleased to present a cheque of £2000 from Tesco to Autism Stress Alert to contribute towards all the amazing help this group provide in our community.
Keeping Bexhill's Heritage Alive

Mayor Kathy Harmer and I opened the new base for local conservation charity, Bexhill Heritage, in Devonshire Road.

Battle Arts Festival

An uplifting Battle Arts Festival concert from the Battle Community Singers and the Whatlington Singers Choir. A perfect end to a Parliamentary week. Thanks to conductor and maestro Ailsa Vinson
New Business Minister visits Westham

Residents were given the chance to press our new Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Minister, Kwasi Kwarteng, on our environmental and climate change reduction plans.

Thomas Cook Update

Delighted to see that the Queen’s Speech commits the Government to the airline insolvency reform I called for two years ago. I pressed the new Transport Secretary for detail and his other priorities in our Select Committee. Read more here.
Hosting MPs and Transport for the South East

Hosting Cllr Keith Glazier and his team from Transport for the South East and the region’s MPs. Keith spoke of his mission and I introduced the new Transport Minister and lobbied him on the needs we have - which you can read about here.
Dover's Gain is Parliament's Loss

Our Parliamentary Chaplain, Rev. Rose Hudson-Wilkin, is leaving us to become the Bishop of Dover. The TV cameras do not show it but we start daily with Rose’s prayers before the noise begins. Joining her leaving tea, I thanked her for her pastoral support.
National Living Wage

A welcome increase for those who will benefit but my concerns over small businesses and the impact on the jobs market for the younger workforce caused me to take to the chamber. Watch my intervention here.
Opening Pevensey Bay Community Library

I was delighted to be asked to officially open the new Pevensey Bay Library.  We have come a long way since our very first Library Working Group meeting following the library’s closure in 2017. Thanks to an outstanding team of volunteers; their dedication and hard work has paid off. If you haven’t been already, do pop down and find out what’s going on in the library and your local community.
