Hello Team,
I know we are swaying a bit from our usual email updates on rural America and the issues that impact us here at home, but since many of you have messaged me asking for updates on the situation in Afghanistan, that is what we are doing.
First, my translator is still desperately trying to get his family out. Because of all the noise we are making about it, President Biden has started applying pressure on the State Department to cut the red tape, and several members of Congress -- all Democrats by the way -- have reached out to me personally to lend their support. For that I am grateful, as are my translators.
Additionally, the reporting out of Kabul today appears to be promising. We all are watching the heroic efforts of Clarissa Ward and her team putting their lives on the line to show us exactly what's going on on the ground. Planes appear to be leaving one after the other, filled with refugees.
But here is what concerns me: some of those planes are coming to the United States and we have seen a sudden rise in bigotry against refugees. These folks have nothing but the clothes on their back and a hope of finding safety for themselves and their families. We are now preparing to defend against the onslaught of attacks that the racist right wing media and their puppets in the GQP plan to hurl at these innocent people.
Make no mistake about it: If we don't defend them no one will.
We are organizing through social media, as well as politically with our allies in Congress. This is where you can help, because I need you to do something incredibly important today: Call your members of Congress, and tell them to do everything to welcome the refugees that are fleeing war and persecution.
We at No Dem Left Behind have partnered with an NGO on the ground called No One Left Behind, an organization working to keep our promises to wartime interpreters and allies. Let's support them in anyway we can.
Today, I would like to bring your attention to No One Left Behind which is doing some great work on the ground to aid in Afghanistan. I highly encourage you to support them.
I also hope you continue to support us here at home so we can continue to fight the radical right and the war mongering conglomerates that back them who enabled this forever war from the get-go.
