John, right now, humanitarian catastrophes — one manmade, one natural disaster — are rapidly developing in Afghanistan and Haiti.

In Afghanistan, millions of men, women and children are displaced or at risk after the Taliban officially seized power of the country. In Haiti, almost 1,300 people have been killed and thousands more are injured or displaced after a magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck on August 14, all while the country prepares for the worst when Tropical Depression Grace strikes the island as expected this week.

While things can seem overwhelming, it is important to know that there are ways you can help Afghans and Haitians.

In light of current events in both Haiti and Afghanistan, LeftNet is uplifting the following groups’ work on the ground. If you’re in a position to donate, please consider supporting these organizations providing relief:

And if you’re not in a position to donate, you can help by reaching out to the White House, your governor and your Congressional representatives to ensure that efforts are being made to evacuate and resettle Afghan individuals and their families and to accept Haitian and Afghan refugees into the United States.

  • Click here to contact the White House about increasing the United States' commitment to resettling more refugees.
  • Find and contact your governor about accepting more refugees in your state.
  • Find and contact your senators about accepting more refugees.

Though these crises can feel far away from our lives in the United States, they truly are global. We must all look out for our global neighbors and each other. Thank you for your support today.

Moving forward together with determination and in solidarity,
