Hello Team,
I’m writing this letter to you because I want to personally communicate my frustrations of what's going on in Afghanistan, and make you aware of the disastrous foreign policy decisions made by multiple Republican administrations.
I am angry. I am frustrated. And I will not be mincing words.
I am dumbfounded that we have spent 20 years and $2 trillion in Afghanistan in the hopes of freeing a nation and training the Afghan army just to see it fall in 5 days! 5 days!
I’m going to place the blame where it belongs. Politics. That’s right. It’s just politics. We have had far too many people in our government lead us down this path for the last 20 years. And why? Because it benefitted contractors, and put money in the pockets of people who then influence our elected representatives.
We were told repeatedly for years that we were doing the right thing, and to watch the entire country of Afghanistan fall in 5 days and be taken over once again by the Taliban -- frankly makes me sick to my stomach.
Make no mistake: We were lied to.
We never should’ve left Afghanistan when we had Osama Bin Laden up in the mountains. But we pulled back to invade Iraq. Why? Because it benefitted contractors.
People like Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld and Nikki Haley who put the interests of contractors and corporations like Halliburton over the lives of American soldiers.
The money that went to these contractors and these corporations was paid for by the blood of American soldiers.
The GQP has no shame. They are morally bankrupt and don’t subscribe to any set of values other than making money for themselves, the military industrial complex, and corporations.
This was the past, and it is continuing to be our present because our elected representatives are hand-picked by these military contractors.
Now, all the Afghan people that helped us -- interpreters, sources, and others are all stuck because we didn’t have a plan! We should have set the stage to where we dedicated 6 months to get everyone that worked for us out of Afghanistan. I personally know an interpreter in Arizona who still has his wife and child stuck in Afghanistan because they’ve been repeatedly denied a visa to the United States. This is shameful. This is not who we are.
Now the GQP is trying to pin this on President Biden when this was Trump’s plan all along. In Trump’s last year in office, he assured a face to face meeting with the Taliban and introduced a plan to pull out by May of 2021. It was Trump and his lackeys like Mike Pompeo and Nikki Haley who completely botched the withdrawal of our troops as they now try to blame the current administration which has been in power for less than 9 months.
I am disgusted and disappointed.
I served multiple tours in Afghanistan. I witnessed the abuse and the horror firsthand. That's why this is personal to me. I feel like I wasted years of my life. What's happening is unacceptable.
Over the next few days, I will be keeping you updated on this situation that’s resulting from our foreign policy failures as a result of greed, the influence of military contractors on our government and why it’s important that we get civically involved.
It’s time people knew the truth.
It’s time America gets her act together and starts fighting for the right values again.
