Team,
Imagine one day you wake up and you realize your period is late — late enough to give you pause. You drive to the pharmacy to get a pregnancy test, and it comes out positive.
You don’t want to be pregnant. But you live in Texas.
If anti-choice extremists have their way and the Texas abortion ban goes into effect, 29 million people could lose access to abortion before most people even know they are pregnant. There are ways we can fight back against this and other abortion bans across the country, but only if we have the support of every single member of this community before it’s too late.
Together, we can overcome this dangerous threat to our freedoms. Rush an urgent gift now to NARAL Pro-Choice America and help protect access to abortion care — time is running out. [[link removed]]

Make no mistake, anti-choice politicians passed this law to force abortion clinics to close, knowing there would be little chance of them reopening. 1
This would force thousands of pregnant people to go without the care they desperately need or force them to drive, in some cases hundreds of miles, across state lines to seek care. Analysis from the Guttmacher Institute found that if most or all legal abortion in Texas was shut down, the average one-way driving distance to an abortion clinic would increase from 12 miles to 248 miles, or 20 times the distance. 2
This exodus of people seeking care in neighboring states will, in turn, create a crisis of access for already-overburdened clinics in New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas. Of these four states, only New Mexico has protected access. 3, 4 Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas all have severe restrictions on abortion. Clinics from as far away as Florida are already reporting an increase in calls from people seeking care from Texas. 5
More than this, if the anti-choice supermajority on the Supreme Court guts or overturns Roe v. Wade in the coming months, many more states will see clinics close and millions of people lose access to care. We can only prevent this crisis from having a domino effect across the country by passing the Women’s Health Protection Act and fighting like hell to protect access in the states.
We cannot do that without each and every NARAL member pitching in — so if you can, please rush an urgent gift now to NARAL Pro-Choice America and help protect access to abortion care before it’s too late. [[link removed]]
