Let’s fight for fight redistricting and against gerrymandering
Dear John,

At Florida Rising, we believe that no matter our background, color or zip code, voters should be able to pick their leaders and not the other way around. Every decade, new district lines are drawn and these determine funds for schools, hospitals, and other essential services allocated by our government. However, due to politicians around the country rigging the process, drawing districts often serves the interests of politicians instead of those of communities.

The U.S. Census Bureau’s release of the redistricting data marks the first official day of redistricting. Redistricting is our once-in-a-decade process of accounting for state-level population changes to draw new congressional district maps for federal, state and local governing bodies, and it is our duty to make sure that gerrymandering does not occur.  Gerrymandering is a threat to equitable distribution of resources and the democracy that is the heartbeat of our country.

By joining together to speak up for fair districting, we can make our communities whole and deliver the resources our schools and families need for a decade to come. It’s our role as community leaders and members to inform the levers of power what our communities need. That is why Florida Rising will be hosting several ways to become involved in the fight for fair redistricting, including trainings on how to use community mapping software. Be sure to sign up here. We need your voice in this fight!
