BREAKING: Today, the United Nations published a report that delivered dramatic warnings about the effect of human-induced climate change on the planet – and how much worse it could get.

The 3,000-plus-page report from 234 scientists said global warming is already accelerating as sea levels continue to rise, and we see worsening extremes such as heat waves, droughts, floods and storms. Tropical cyclones are getting stronger and wetter, while Arctic sea ice is dwindling in the summer as permafrost is thawing, the report says.

It also makes it unquestionable that human influence has contributed to climate change and the warming of the planet. The report states that observed increases in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere since 1750 can be directly tied to human activity, largely the burning of coal, oil and other fossil fuels as the world became industrialized. Those emissions have increased greatly over time and continue today, as the world grows even warmer.

The UN outlines five climate futures where humans take various actions to reduce carbon emissions that are contributing to climate change. All of them involve making a concerted effort to change our lifestyles to reduce emissions and pollutants.

The report furthers by stating that even though warming will continue well beyond 2040, aggressive, rapid and widespread emissions cuts, beginning now, could limit the warming beyond 2050. In the most optimistic scenario, reaching “net zero” emissions could even bring warming back slightly under 1.5 degrees Celsius in the second half of the century, which would bring down erratic climate patterns and natural disasters considerably.

The time to act is now!

For years, we’ve been waiting on the GQP to muster the political will and leadership needed to fight back against special interest groups and reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. But so far, there have been no results. We simply cannot afford to put our future and the future of our children in the hands of a party that to this day, refuses to accept scientific fact and is dedicated to spreading misinformation--be it on the global pandemic or climate change.
