The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) just released a report indicating that climate change has already done irreversible damage to our planet:
CNN: Earth is warming faster than previously thought, scientists say
Now, let’s be clear: this didn’t have to happen.
The IPCC has been sounding the alarm about the impact of CO2 emissions on climate change since 1990. In the over 30 years since, our leaders have kicked the can down the road on transformative climate action — all in the name of keeping corporations and billionaires happy.
We can’t go back and change those decisions, but we can still prevent the worst impacts of climate change if we act now. That’s why I’m reiterating my support for the Green New Deal, and my insistence that the reconciliation infrastructure bill being debated in Congress include climate action. I’m hoping you’ll join me:
Add your name if you agree that we need a Green New Deal now. We don’t have much time to act if we’re going to prevent the most catastrophic impacts of climate change.

The incrementalism that’s defined our country’s approach to combating climate change over the past few decades simply isn’t going to cut it.
In the first six months of this year alone, the Interior Department has approved thousands of permits to drill for oil on public and tribal lands. Fracking causes water supply contamination that impacts millions of Americans each year. And while the White House is correct to promote electric vehicles as part of the way forward on climate policy, the solution is right in front of us: wholesale decarbonization.
We’ll continue to see severe droughts and wildfires, oil spills, major bodies of water on fire, and dangerous, unprecedented high temperatures if we don’t act now. Please, add your name to join me:

I know that the news from the IPCC is discouraging, and it might even make you feel like giving up. But now is the time to fight back harder than ever against oil and fossil fuel executives — and the politicians who serve them — to secure a safe future for all.
Thank you, as always, for your support.
