Dear John,
I wouldn’t be where I am today without my experience at Power Shift.
I was a student at Bates College when I participated in Power Shift 2007 in Washington DC. At that time, I was part of Bates Energy Action Movement (BEAM) and beginning to find both a sense of community and a deeper passion for climate justice work.
I was just starting to dip my toes into the world of campus based climate organizing and testing the waters to see if the sense of community and shared purpose I felt on campus would exist elsewhere.
I remember wearing a green hard hat, standing with thousands of young people on the Capitol lawn demanding green jobs and a just transition to renewable energy. We enthusiastically listened to speakers as the sea of signs and green hard hats erupted with powerful energy that had been building throughout the Power Shift weekend.
I had found my calling. I had this incredible moment of clarity that has shaped my life ever since.
That was my moment. It was critical then and even more urgent now that young people — especially those most immediately impacted by the climate crisis — are supported and encouraged to take these challenges head on.
Can you help other young organizers find their moment? We need folks like you to be the first to fund this convergence so we can get it off the ground. Can you make a $20.21 gift to jumpstart Power Shift 2021?
I still think about that moment on the Capitol lawn, and tap into that powerful galvanizing energy when I need it most. I see how Power Shift 2007 impacted my path and launched a generation of committed climate leaders (and dear friends!) that I still collaborate with more than 10 years later.
I want that experience for every young organizer looking for deeper connection and an onramp to leadership in the climate movement.
>In this critical moment for addressing the climate crisis, please join me in investing in the heart of the youth climate movement and the glue that keeps it connected.
Make a $20.21 donation so we can bring all kinds of young people forward and build the power we need to tackle the climate crisis.
Together, we will develop movement leaders, shape movement culture, lift up equity, justice, and inclusion within the broader climate movement, and create long lasting community.
I’m so hopeful for what we’re about to do together.
