John, today we commemorate the signing of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 -- the strongest piece of pro-democracy legislation in our nation’s modern history.
Yet, the very attacks on our democracy that led to the passage of the Voting Rights Act continue today. If you believe we must become a country in which every eligible voter can freely and fairly cast a ballot on Election Day, I hope you will join me in taking action today.
Senators must take bold action immediately to protect voters’ rights. Will you call yours at 1-833-497-4273?
The Voting Rights Act remains a historic victory for We The People thanks to countless voting rights advocates like Martin Luther King Jr, Diane Nash, and Congressman John Lewis, who never relented in their pursuit.
Though bloodied and beaten, they never gave up their good fight, knowing nothing was more sacred than the freedom to vote and having a say in our government.
Sadly, the Supreme Court gutted this historic piece of legislation in 2013 (and again in the Brnovich decision less than two months ago) -- ushering in new attacks on voters. Just this year, states like Georgia and Texas moved to make voting more difficult, attack proven reforms, and shut Black and Brown voters out of our democracy.
Today, I need your help to pass the legislation that would carry the Voting Rights Act’s mission -- of protecting ALL voters’ rights -- forward. Please call your senators at 1-833-497-4273 today.
Common Cause will continue to fight for a strong and inclusive democracy that invites every American to participate in the collective work of achieving a more equitable and just society.
Thanks for all you do,
Karen Hobert Flynn, President
and the team at Common Cause
P.S.
Can you commit two hours of your time this weekend to call voters? This is the most impactful thing you can do right now -- every shift generates dozens of phone calls to key swing senators that we will need to convince.
