Preventing Childhood Drowning Around the World
<[link removed]>

In the past decade, more than 2.5 million people have drowned globally —
including many young people and children. It's an issue Mike is focused on as
World Health Organization Global Ambassador for Noncommunicable Diseases and
Injuries, and Bloomberg Philanthropies has worked for years to prevent drowning
in low- and middle-income countries, where more than 90% of drowning deaths
occur and where children under the age of five are most at risk. Progress is
being made: This year the United Nations declared July 25th as the first-ever
World Drowning Prevention Day. But there's more to be done. Check out our video
"Drowning in the Delta: Preventing Childhood Drowning in Bangladesh,"

solutions to this global challenge.

from the tobacco industry's relentless push to addict new generations of
children." Her op-ed outlines proven strategies for reducing tobacco use — and
saving lives.
