Summer is a great time to explore our state and connect in person with the people we work closely with. We’ve been using this time to meet with our board members and advisory council in their communities across the state. It’s been great to get outside and talk about the issues that they’re working on! We grabbed coffee with Rachel London in Ellicott City and caught up on her work with the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council. Old Mill Cafe for the win!

We especially loved visiting Chiara D’Amore at the Freetown Farm in Columbia to learn about their work and do some weeding in the medicinal herb garden. From their community gardens stewarded by groups like the HoCo NAACP, a climate garden focused on carbon sequestration, a new Maker Space, and so much more, the work they’re doing is inspiring.

Meeting Nick Stewart to talk progressive powerbuilding in Catonsville meant a stop at Atwater’s. Glad to visit a business that believes in their workforce and a stronger Maryland!

We met up with board member Tom Coale at The Food Market in Columbia. Pro tip: order the pretzels.

Can’t forget about Black Ankle! We had a great time touring the winery and learning about their sustainable practices and how the Maryland wine industry is growing.

We were busy in July working to halt Governor Hogan’s plan to build luxury toll lanes and put a private company in charge of I-495/I-270. Hogan spent thousands on ads smearing local leaders who voted against his plan, threatened to defund local transit projects that he never intended to fund in the first place, and bullied the Transportation Planning Board (TPB) into re-voting the project. The TPB overturned their vote and approved the project, but the fight is far from over. If you’re able, please chip in to help us stop this project. >>>
