That's how a Justice Department official described the lengths Donald Trump and his supporters went to overturn the results of a free and fair election.
New reporting revealed that over the course of several weeks after the 2020 election, Trump and his allies continually urged the Justice Department to back up their false claims of voter fraud.
They urged the DOJ to explore false claims that voting machines altered votes in Michigan. They discussed filing a Supreme Court challenge to six states' election results. Mark Meadows even shared a YouTube conspiracy video that said the election was stolen from Trump through military satellites in Italy.
Donald Trump and his allies were so desperate to remain in power that they were willing to do whatever it took to undermine our democracy. Their endless promotion of the "Big Lie" resulted in a violent mob storming our Capitol on January 6 followed by 147 Republicans in Congress voting to reject the 2020 election results.
