Folks,

I can’t wait for Jasmine’s mini-golf fundraiser on Saturday. Mostly because I’m planning to win our family game of mini-golf. For the record, Jasmine and our son, Cal, are also planning to win. But I will prevail.

You could say we have a healthy competitive streak as a family. But tomorrow, her opponent, Madison Cawthorn, will raise hundreds of thousands of dollars at an upper-crust fundraiser at Trump’s New Jersey golf course.

Cawthorn must not have gotten the memo -- I’m the only one who gets to win against Jasmine! Will you chip in $25 to help my wife meet her July fundraising goal and defeat Cawthorn in this race?

Let me back up a little bit.

Jasmine is my wife, and I love her very much. And part of what I love is her competitive streak.

For one of our very first dates, we ran an adventure race together. Jasmine and her friends had formed a team several years in a row, and let’s just say that, despite Jasmine’s competitive instincts, they weren’t winning any trophies...

(As in: our team name might have been inspired by a donut.)

I had just moved to town and was surreptitiously assigned to Jasmine’s team by a mutual friend turned matchmaker. I was in the midst of my soccer career and training seriously at that point.

I wish I could say we walked away with the trophy. Instead, we got lost and they had to send a search party for us.

I’d never laughed so much as I did that day. That’s when I knew Jasmine was special -- not only because she made getting lost a great time, but because I could see that when she really set her mind to something more serious than a fun run, she wouldn’t quit until she achieved it.

I saw that drive in action when she launched the Campaign for Southern Equality and helped win marriage equality in North Carolina and Mississippi. Then again when she ran for County Commissioner and won, even when most pundits said she didn’t stand a chance. Then again when she built bipartisan coalitions to pass progressive policies for Western North Carolina.

When it comes to grassroots organizing, Jasmine will overcome any obstacle in her way to achieve what’s right and deliver results.

Jasmine’s putting that drive into action right now as she runs to be the compassionate, effective Congresswoman that NC-11 deserves. Will you chip in to help my wife beat the odds once again?
