A conversation with AAP President Dr. Lee Beers We are excited to announce the next event in our 25th Anniversary Event series: a Community Conversation featuring American Academy of Pediatrics president Dr. Lee Beers on Tuesday, August 24th, at noon. You can register here! As DC prepares for the return to school amidst rising COVID-19 cases, many of us have questions about the public health implications for children and their families. I can’t think of a better person to help us answer these questions and more than Dr. Lee Beers, a long-time partner of Children’s Law Center and a national voice on pediatric issues. We’ll be discussing with Dr. Beers what it means to navigate the complexity of managing – but not eliminating – risk, especially when it comes to in-person school and the vaccine for children. We’ll also talk about some of our biggest challenges during the post-pandemic recovery: What do safety and equity look like for children and families returning to the classroom? How can we balance public health best practices with other urgent needs, especially for children dealing with unaddressed trauma and learning loss? And of course, we hope you’ll come with your own questions, either by submitting them in advance or asking them live during the event. 25th Anniversary Event Series: A Delicate Balance: Children’s Health and the Return to School August 24, 2021 at 12pm EDT Who: In addition to serving as the current president of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Lee Beers is the medical director for Community Health and Advocacy at Children’s National Hospital. She oversees the Child Health Advocacy Institute’s Community Mental Health CORE, which includes initiatives such as the DC Mental Health Access in Pediatrics Program and the Early Childhood Innovation Network. What: As a national expert on children’s health, Dr. Lee Beers will provide context and understanding for families navigating this new normal. How can we better understand our roles managing risk? What will safe in-person school look like for children who can’t be vaccinated? Dr. Beers will help us take on these complicated and timely questions as we prepare for the next phase of the pandemic. When: Tuesday, August 24th, from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm EDT Doors to the Remo platform will open at 11:30 am EDT and will remain open until 1:30 pm EDT for those who would like to network before or after the event. How: Click here to register and submit questions for the conversation. Please note that this virtual event will be hosted on Remo, an interactive platform. After completing the registration form, you will receive a confirmation email with information about how to access the event on the Remo platform. Register I hope you can join us. There’s a lot to discuss, and Dr. Beers never fails to teach me something new.
