Dear John,
Today, I’m thinking about this article which reminded me that “people have to be cared about in such a way that they care about the harm that they’re doing.” It feels so simple, but it’s also so easy to forget.

I immediately thought about our deep canvassing work in Minneapolis. Deep canvassing is a method of having honest and empathetic conversations with voters. It helps us connect with each other and remember that the tactics used to scare and divide us are just meant to keep money and power in the hands of a select few. But we know that we have enough wisdom, care, and resources to build a future that works for and includes all of us.

Join us in building relationships and power through care. Deep canvass phone bank shifts are available every Wednesday and Sunday. If you’re near Minneapolis, we’d love to see you at our in-person doorknock shifts on August 8th and 22nd.

Speaking of Minneapolis, we have so much at stake this year. We have the opportunity – and power – to transform our public safety system, make sure every resident has stable housing, and put care and people – not profits or property – at the center of our government.
That’s exactly why a few wealthy, power-hungry individuals are feeding us with so many lies, trying to scare us away from the possibility of a city where all our neighbors, and all of us, are valued and protected.

We know the truth, though – that over 20,000 of us signed the Yes 4 Minneapolis people’s petition to create a new Department of Public Safety rooted in public health, and that there are fantastic, accountable candidates running for mayor, city council, and park board, who know how to put people and care first when they govern.

Join us for a deep canvass phone bank or doorknock shift, and connect with your neighbors. Whether we live in Minneapolis or Greater Minnesota, we’re fighting for a better future because we all deserve to be cared for and protected, and together, we have the power to make that future a reality – in Minneapolis, and beyond.
