Dreamers’ lives are in limbo - again!

Earlier this month, a federal judge in Texas, Andrew Hanen, ruled against the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and partially blocked it from going forward.

Under the new ruling, Dreamers that currently have DACA can continue to renew their status for now, but no new applications will be approved.

Once again, DACA is now hanging on by a thread.

The lives of immigrants who are American in all but paperwork continue to be under severe legal threat as DACA could end at any moment and automatically put 600,000 Dreamers at risk of deportation.

It is time for a permanent solution.

Congress must pass legislation that creates a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers and immigrant youth both with and without DACA, TPS holders, farm workers and essential workers.

The Senate has put together a budget resolution for a reconciliation package on human infrastructure that includes citizenship for Dreamers, farm workers, essential workers and TPS holders. However, given the Republicans’ proven hostility to a legislative breakthrough, it is up to Democrats to deliver using the reconciliation process.

Additionally, the Biden Administration is committed to providing a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. Last week both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris met with Dreamers, undocumented immigrants and immigration advocates in Washington, D.C. and promised to get it done.

No more excuses. It is time for Congress to act.

It is time to recognize the Dreamers and undocumented immigrants for the contributions they make to this country. Nothing has shown that more than the pandemic as the majority of them have kept us healthy, safe, and fed.

The momentum is building. Help us cross the finish line.

Thank you for your support,
Juana
